For years now, we have heard about the need for vocations in the Catholic Church. Many pastors will be reaching retirement age, so we will need someone to continue their service in our parishes. Thanks to your prayers and a strong vocations program in the Diocese of Nashville, we have ordained many new priests over the past few years. Now we have 25 seminarians who are preparing to be our future diocesan priests. To help support the cost of their education, we are holding a special collection October 29, which coincides with National Priesthood Sunday. Please give generously and pray for vocations to the priesthood.

Yes, it’s that time of year to consider donating to a worthy cause. As last year, we would like to contribute to the women’s Christmas at TPFW (Tennessee Prison for Women). In the past, we have collected socks, gloves, shampoo, deodorant, coffee, tea and numerous other items. This year, as last, we would like to collect monetary donations to be added with other churches and non-profit organizations to purchase items for the ladies for Christmas. We will begin collecting Oct. 14 through Sunday, Nov. 12. When making donations for the prison, please write the check to St. Stephen with “The Prison Ministry” written in the “For” line. Thank you in advance for your generous donations.
Our next opportunity to serve the homeless at Loaves and Fishes is Oct. 28. We will be doing breakfast and lunch. We need 3-5 volunteers to help with breakfast from 7:30am to 9:30am, and 10-14 volunteers to help with lunch from 9:30am to 1pm. We hope to go to an online sign up soon to be sure we do not have too few or too many, with divided shifts for the lunch time. Sorry it is not working yet! I also need someone to volunteer to be in charge for breakfast and lunch (same person or two) as I have a meeting in town and cannot attend but will get the roster together. Thanks!
