We hope to go to an online sign up soon to be sure we do not have too few or too many, with divided shifts for the lunch time. Contact Tracey Doering at 615-347-9643 or 615-385-3688. Families welcome (no age excluded) and community service hours can be obtained for this time. Meet at Holy Name Church (521 Woodland St.) in East Nashville (building behind the church).
The Knights of Columbus Silver Rose Prayer Service will be held at St. Stephen on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 7pm. The entire community is invited to participate in this unique event. Please invite your family, relatives, and friends to join you in attending. This is a time when our religious liberties, the sanctity of human life in all its stages, and the need for strong Catholic families require that we turn to Mary for her intercession. There will be an opportunity for private prayer with the Rose.
Save the dates for our annual Treasure Hunt sale. Sale: Friday, Oct. 6/Saturday, Oct. 7. Set up: Wednesday. Oct. 4/Thursday, Oct. 5. Our largest fundraiser of the year, the St. Stephen Treasure Hunt benefits our parish and many charities sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Parishioner volunteers will be needed in all areas (set up, sorting, selling, tear down). A POD will be in the upper parking lot Saturday, Aug. 19. Throughout the month of August, St. Stephen’s Faithful Citizens Group will be collecting cases of water for our H2O for the Homeless Campaign and distributing it weekly to local service providers who will give it out to our homeless neighbors during the hot days of August. Simply bring your donation to the old church and place where marked. See flyer in the bulletin. We also suggest if you drive around town during the day, carry a cooler with some chilled water, some sun screen, and/or individual bug spray, and when you see someone selling the Contributor or other “Street Vendors,” add it to your donation!
Wondering what is going on at St. Stephen on the 3rd Friday of every month, from 6:30pm-9:30pm? It’s fun! It’s joy-filled! It’s ministry! It’s Buddy Break! Buddy Break is a respite program for families of children with special needs. Our trained volunteers (Buddies) care for the children one-on-one, while the parents get a much-needed three-hour break! Because the program is so popular, we are in need of more Buddies, ages 14 and up! You are invited to come visit us to see what the program is all about, or to come to our next Buddy Training 101 class, which will be held on Friday, Aug. 18, from 6:45pm to 9pm. The one-time training is a requirement for every volunteer in the program. If you have questions, or if you want to sign up for the training, please contact Jerry or Wen Marcec, who will be happy to answer your questions or to have all the materials for training ready for you on Aug. 18. Contact Jerry and Wen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In recognition of our “MR Foundation” week, please join the Knights of Columbus in the hall of the Holy Family Center for complimentary hot dogs after the Saturday Mass on Aug. 19. You will have the opportunity to meet the children and teens from the Empower Me Day Camp, Mt. Juliet Challenger League, and Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee (DSAMT), Buddy Break, and The Arc of TN. The Knights will be on hand to accept donations and we greatly appreciate your support for these programs. Also, join us for complimentary sausage biscuits in the old church after the 8:30am Sunday Mass (Aug. 20). Your donations go a long way to help those children with physical and intellectual disabilities.
